A Story of Patience, Perseverance, and a Client’s New Beginning
At Concierge Care Advisors, every client’s journey is unique, and some journeys take longer than others. Today, I want to share the story of a client who taught me the value of patience, trust, and unwavering support. It’s been nearly two years since I first connected with him, and while the path was not straightforward, the outcome has made every challenge worth it. This story is about a man with a colorful past—a life filled with heartbreak, love, travel, and friendships as strong as family. His gift for storytelling is remarkable; a single story can last an hour, yet you hang onto every word, captivated by the rich descriptions and heartfelt memories.
The Initial Struggle: Searching for the Right Care
The client was originally referred to Concierge Care Advisors because he was struggling to care for himself at home, despite having a caregiver. Unfortunately, multiple hospital visits revealed that his care needs were not being met, and the hospital reached out to us, hoping we could help him transition to a safer living situation.
From the start, this journey was anything but simple. The client was torn between staying at home with his caregiver or moving into an Adult Family Home (AFH), where he could receive higher-level care. We provided several options, including reliable in-home care services, but despite the efforts, he continued to waver. The client would occasionally reach out, expressing his desire to switch caregivers or explore new care settings, only to retreat back into familiar patterns soon after.
Even Adult Protective Services (APS) stepped in due to concerns about the lack of proper care, but still, the client remained reluctant to make a lasting change. Throughout it all, Concierge Care Advisors stayed by his side—checking in, offering help, and reassuring him that we would be here whenever he was ready.
The Turning Point: Timing Is Everything
Eventually, the situation reached a critical point. The client was admitted to the hospital once again, and this time, the doctors and social workers urged us to help find a more permanent solution. This was the moment of clarity the client needed. After two years of back-and-forth decisions, he finally felt ready to make a change. He agreed to explore an Adult Family Home, where he could receive the care and safety he deserved.
It wasn’t easy, even on the day of the transition. Many hours were spent coordinating with the doctor, social worker, nurses, and our team to ensure that the client felt empowered in his decision. We wanted to make sure he knew that the choice was entirely his—and that it was the right one.
A New Chapter: Thriving in a Safe and Supportive Home
Today, this client is thriving in his new Adult Family Home. He receives the care he needs and no longer feels trapped in his circumstances. Gone are the days when he spoke of “letting his old body go” because he felt he had no options. Now, he has the care and support that allow him to live with dignity and comfort.
This experience highlights one of the things I love most about working at Concierge Care Advisors: we don’t give up on our clients, even when they aren’t ready to make a change. Whether the transition happens in a week or two years, we remain a resource and a support system, available whenever the time is right.
