I want to talk about a wonderful client I met that we have been trying to be of assistance for almost 2 years. This was a difficult placement and the ride isn’t over, but it is well worth it, when you consider the benefit to the senior. This client is a man with an extensive past that is full of heartbreak and love, and life spent traveling, and friends that are just like family to him. He can tell you one story that lasts an hour, and you wouldn’t even mind because it’s so full of description and eloquently told, that you don’t want it to end.
This client was referred to Concierge Care Advisors initially looking into long term care due to inability to care for himself at home. At the time, the client stated that they had a caregiver in the home, but after multiple hospital visits and obvious care needs not being met, the hospital wanted someone to step in and try assist on behalf of the client/patient. Advisors were met with despair from the client, going back and forth between the client wanting to keep their caregiver, or moving into AFH. Multiple resources were offered to the client, including In Home Care provided through reliable sources of caregivers, but to no avail. Adult Protective Services even stepped in due to the concern of care not being given. Concierge Care Advisors stayed with this client, checking in, and offering help whenever the client decided he needed it. The client would reach out to advisors when he was ready to make changes in caregiver, but then lose steam, and continue home.
Finally, the client was in the hospital, and Concierge Care Advisors was called in once again, to try to offer assistance. The timing was right, and the client decided at this point that he wanted to pursue an AFH so that he could receive the care that he needed, and be safe. Even on that day, many hours were put in, by the doctor, the social worker, the nurses, and the advisor to ensure and confirm with the client that the decision was all his, but that it was correct.
The outcome of this placement is that the client is now somewhere that he receives excellent care, and he thrives, and he speaks no more of “letting his old body go” simply because he had no other choices, or couldn’t make them. I am proud to work for a company that is invested in the long term safety of a senior regardless of if they want to make moves at the time of contact or not. In the end, we are always a resource and available to help and assist.
