By Lois Jasmer, Certified Senior Advisor at Concierge Care Advisors
I just realized after almost 20 years in the Senior Living Industry that I am an EXPERT in Senior Living. I see others that are Dentists, Doctors, Lawyers, Real Estate Brokers and think of them as Professional Experts in their fields. But me? An expert in something that I have been doing from my heart all these
years. Who knew!?
All of us that are Advisors here at Concierge Care Advisors are Experts in Senior Living. We may not all have come from the same background or spent the same number of years in the industry, but we all know Senior Living. We know the good the bad and the ugly.
I have personally spent about 2/3rds of my time in Senior Living at the community level and 1/3 of my years as an Advisor. I have worked for some of the largest Senior Living communities in Washington as well as for private owners, in both Assisted Living and Memory Care. You learn a lot about what will work and what won’t concerning a seniors transition to a community after spending that much time working in communities.
Seniors and the families have so many things to consider when deciding where to move and when to
move. That is where my expertise comes in. I know if the communities in the area would be a good fit or
not, or if you are just wasting your time touring places that will kick you out when your run out of
money, or if you need to be transferred using a Hoyer lift. Do you even know what a Hoyer lift is? As an
expert, I know when you should be looking at an Adult Family Home instead of a Memory Care
community, and how to negotiate when you only have $50,000 to your name.
I work with expert Advisors here at Concierge Care Advisors; they have backgrounds in Nursing, Skilled
Nursing, Rehab and Social Work. We have a team of experts that support the Advisors and are Social
Workers and Case Managers, so we can handle about anything that gets thrown our way. We also have
two Doctors to help guide our decisions and be sure what we do is inline with what a client’s Physician
may expect.
To me, being an expert is having the experience to know the right thing to do and always doing it for my
clients. When I come across something I am not an Expert in, I find someone who is that can help the
client. I have a successful history in helping people in my industry which makes me an Expert you want
to call when you need help with Senior Living.
