Every family comes to us with a different situation and different needs. Not long ago, the Concierge Care Advisors were contracted by a woman to help find her mother an adult family home in Kirkland.
The woman’s mother had been retired for quite some time and fortunately was not in crisis-mode. In other words, she did not need placement immediately, but we were contacted because she wanted to make sure that, when the time came to move that she would be taken care of. She had several concerns and simply didn’t have enough time to seek out all the adult family homes in Kirkland herself.
First and foremost, the family wanted to make sure their mother’s condition was cared for. She suffered from macular degeneration which meant that her vision was worsening over time. This was actually less severe than the family had anticipated. Her impaired vision made it so that she didn’t recognize people on a first glance or where her keys were (even if they were nearby on a counter). The family thought that this was a sign that their mother had forgetfulness, which since memory loss is associated with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, they assumed the worst. It’s a good reason to always get checked out.
However, people suffering from macular degeneration also puts them at a higher risk of falls due to disorientation. Add to this, the fact that her mother’s sight would gradually decrease and can result in blindness, she wanted to make sure that whatever senior living community they chose would be able to support a blind woman.
The second amenity she needed was for the community to feel like home, not just look like one. She wanted to be able to walk along the halls and be comfortable, not like she was in a hospital or institution – narrowing the field to assisted living and adult family homes in Kirkland.
Of course, her third concern was finding somewhere affordable in Kirkland.
With this in mind, we managed to identify three different senior communities in Kirkland that best matched her criteria. After looking them over, we arranged for a personalized tour of each one. As we toured them with her, the woman’s mother was given the opportunity to speak with the staff and residents to learn personal insights of the homes.
In the end, she chose an adult family home in Kirkland as the perfect home for her mother. She even remarked that she was impressed with the level of care provided at their center, as well as its overall cleanliness and affordability. We’re proud to have helped her and her mother, and we look forward to helping many more seniors find their perfect match.
No matter what your elders’ situation, no matter what chronic health conditions they may have, we will assess the needs and concerns of all families to make sure that they find the senior living community that’s right for them.
