Annette was in her 70’s and living alone. She had reached out to us as she was concerned about her current health troubles of congestive heart failure and COPD. She was also using oxygen 24/7. Her intuition had been correct that her health could deteriorate. But there are times when we all second guess our intuition and make poor decisions.
She had been able to manage her medications and medical supplies and thought it would be smart to move into a community where she could live independently but eventually receive the Assisted Living care she would need someday. Annette was prepared to bring her little dog Charlie on this adventure with her. I believe overthinking and fear of the unknown got the best of her.
She felt nervous about being in new surroundings and new people which stopped her from making a move. I talked with her about the safety of her current home, but she had talked herself into thinking she could still manage on her own. Now I worry a health crisis or fall in her home will require a move where she has limited choices in an emergency. The perfect time to make choices for your care needs are when you are self-sufficient and independent; not in the event of an emergency. You will be able to find the perfect community for your interests and needs. We at Concierge Care Advisors are here to support you in this process.
I’ll continue to check on Annette and little dog Charlie every few months to make sure all is well. They’ll continue to stay in my heart and safe choices will prevail.
