Concierge Care Advisors believes that there’s more to helping our aging population than providing referrals for housing and assisted care. It’s our business to be experts on the aging process – and we understand the impacts of loneliness and anxiety for our elders. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Seattle Mariners to create an opportunity for an afternoon of fun at the ballpark for a number of our area’s seniors and their escorts.
We understand that anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, more than 40 million adults – or 18.1% of the population – are affected annually. For seniors, anxiety and depression are usually precipitated by a traumatic event, such as a fall or other illness, often resulting in a residential change. Regardless of cause, the treatment usually involves some type of psychiatric care and/or medication.
There may be an alternative. Recent research published by the National Institute on Aging has proven what common sense has told us all along: there is a strong correlation between social interaction and positive mental and physical health. Social isolation and loneliness among elders has a physical and emotional impact on their well-being, resulting in a higher incidence of age-related diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and some forms of cancer.
Until August 14, residential communities sending us a senior needing help with transitional care or housing will receive an entry into a drawing for a free pair of tickets (one for a resident senior, one for his/her escort) to a game on August 22 against the Houston Astros at Safeco Field. Each winning community will determine the individual recipients. Families looking for senior care or housing options can also enter the contest by requesting more information via our website and initiating the process of becoming a new client. There is never a charge for our services.
As a final note, we wanted to specifically help veterans who might not be able to otherwise attend a ballgame. Concierge Care Advisors is working directly with facilities serving this population to honor a senior Veteran.
Concierge Care’s contest is more than just about tickets to a ballgame…it’s about restating our commitment to the senior care continuum, including mental health issues. So batter up! And join us in staying #TrueToTheBlue.
